WALES AND THE MUSIC WORLD LOSES A LEGEND
Bonnie Tyler sadly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on July 8th in a hospital in Portugal, aged 75.
Despite being a star, recognised around the world, Bonnie Tyler never forgot her Welsh roots having a home in the Mumbles. Born Gaynor Hopkins, she was originally from Skewen, becoming Gaynor Sullivan when she married her husband of 50 years, Robert.
She was adored by millions around the globe and locally thousands paid a fitting tribute to her as her coffin, draped in a Welsh flag, passed through Mumbles as she returned to her home, Jo Coates-Williams, PR Director of Radio City 1386AM represented the Service.
Shortly after releasing her first single, "Lost In France", Bonnie came to the Radio City studios, in the grounds of Singleton Hospital, for an interview. Members at the time, including myself, remember how natural, unassuming and friendly she was, and despite becoming a huge star, recognised for her "husky" voice and amazing stage presence, those traits remained. Numerous tributes from fans, fellow music icons and famous personalities attest to this.
Her music will ensure her memory will live on and both personally and on behalf of everyone at Radio City 1386AM We send our deepest sympathy to Robert and the family.
